Crochet 101: Beginner Crochet
Length: 4 one hour meetings: 6-7pm

Learn how to crochet in this class. You’ll learn basic crochet stitches while you make a necklace, bracelet, and other goodies.

Materials: Smooth, worsted weight yarn and appropriate hook, stitch markers.

Homework: Write down why you want to learn to crochet.

Forget-not Fingerless Mittens
Two 2-hour sessions (4 hours total)
Tues. Sept. 19 & Oct. 3, 2017  2-4pm

OR Wed. Oct. 4 & 18, 2017  6-8pm

In this class you will learn how to read a simple colorwork chart to make a stranded pattern, and use a yarnover increase for the thumb gusset.  This class will continue your journey from advance beginner to intermediate.    If you can knit and purl, are comfortable with increasing and decreasing and are able to work “in the round”  you are ready for this class.  You will complete your first mitt in this 2-session class, and will leave with the experience to make the second mitt on your own.  $45.00 plus materials

Forget-Not kit available at New England Yarn ($22.)  Pattern is included.
*Sz. 2 double point or 40” circ (if you prefer magic loop)
stitch markers; tapestry needle; waste yarn

*Sz 2 is called for in the pattern.  You may wish to bring larger needles if we determine that your gauge is too tight.

Homework:  Homework: Cast on 16 stitches and work four rows in garter stitch (knit every row).

Crochet 102: Advanced Beginner Crochet

Now that you’ve learned basic crochet stitches, learn how to put them to use in fun, mini projects. You’ll discover how to make a crocheted beanie in any size, make a basic chevron stitch pattern (great for blankets!), and more. If you have previously taken our crochet 101 class, or are familiar with chain, single crochet and double crochet you are ready for this class.

Materials: Smooth, worsted weight yarn and appropriate hook, stitch markers.
Homework: Bring one thing you’ve crocheted to class.

Inclement weather:  We will contact you if there is a concern about inclement weather on a class date. You will receive a refund if your class is cancelled by the shop.

Knit - Advanced Beginner

Zig Zag Tam

Dates: Tuesdays October 24, 2-3 and November 7,  2017 2-4pm

OR Wednesdays November 8 , 6-7 and November 29, 6-8

Length: Two sessions - first class is one hour, second class is two hours

You're going to love working with two strands of yarn to create a kaleidoscope of color in this stranded hat. If you've previously made a simple hat worked in the round, you can take this class and learn to read a colorwork chart and begin stranded knitting. Learn a stretchy cast-on in the first session that you will be able to use for socks, gloves/mittens, and hats. In the second session you'll learn to read a colorwork chart. At the end of this class, you'll have the confidence to attempt any simple colorwork chart you come across in the future.

$40 plus materials for two 2-hour sessions

Materials: 2 balls Liberty Wool for main color, 1 ball Liberty Wool for contrast

Zig Zag Tam pattern available through New England Yarn & Spindle $6.00

Homework:  Cast on 24 stitches and knit 30 rows in stockinette for a gauge swatch.

Brioche Hat  

Class Dates: Tuesdays Oct. 10 & 17   2-4  

Or Wednesdays Oct. 11 & 25   6-8
Length: Two 2-hour sessions

The Brioche Hat class is a great way to get started with the Brioche stitch. In this Brioche 2-session class you will create on of the softest hats ever! You will learn the basic Brioche stitch used in the round and one of the Brioche decrease stitches to form the crown.
 $45 for two 2-hour sessions plus materials.

Materials:  1 skein (approx. 200 yds) worsted weight yarn; 16" circular needles size 5 and 7, and size 7 double point needles - or 40" circular if you prefer magic loop, tapestry needle.  Please download and/or print the free pattern: Briochey by Kaity Fraker on Ravelry;

Skill level: Advanced beginner--must know how to knit and purl; some experience working in the round a plus

Homework: Using smaller needles, cast on 88 sts, using Long Tail cast or other stretchy cast on if possible. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist your cast on. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Round 1: *K1, p1, rep from * to end of round. Repeat Round 1 until hat measures 1.5” from cast on. Switch to larger needles.
